Tutorial: Activating Your Clear Site

Although we have only created two web pages — these designs will function as templates that the owner of the website can use over and over to make page after page of content.  Follow these steps carefully to bring these templates to life.

Packaging Your Web Designs

To save time, use your favorite compression program to zip your site.  NOTE: You must zip the contents of the root folder — not the root folder itself. more detail...

Logging into the Clear Site Developers Portal

1. Go to www.clear-site.com.
2. Click on the "member log in" hexagon.
3. Enter your ID and Password.

If you do not already have a Clear Site ID — click the web developer's registration link located in the left-hand column.  Complete the registration process and then return to this tutorial.

Creating a Web Space

1. In the Developer's Portal (Figure I) click on "Sites & Orders".
2. Wait a moment...
3. Click "Start a Project".
4. You will now be asked who the site is for.  The drop-down list will contain all of your registered clients.  For now, this project is for "Yourself".  Click "Continue".
5. You should now see the page shown in Figure II.  Click on "Begin" near the bottom of step 1.
6. From the list of domain name options — choose "demo" and click "Complete this Step".
7. You will be returned to the page shown in Figure II.  Click on "Begin" near the bottom of step 2.
8. Choose "Use Clear Site web technology...", and click continue.
9. You will be returned to the page shown in Figure II.  Click on "Begin" near the bottom of step 3.
10. Wait a moment and then you should see the page shown in Figure III.

Bringing Your Designs to Life

1. In the center console, browse and upload the ZIP file containing your site template files.
   When the upload is complete,  you will see your files and directories listed.
2. Click "Test Designs".
3. A new window will open asking you to enter some text.  Type in "Home Page" and click "Next".
4. Choose the "Text Page" template by clicking on the text just above the "Text Page" preview.

Congratulations, you have just built and activated a Clear Site content management system.  Take a moment to play with the different features — and be sure to add at least one more page so that you can try the "Photo Page" template. BE SURE TO RETURN TO THIS TUTORIAL because if you look back at step II under "Bringing Your Designs to Life" you'll realize that this site is only in test mode.
